"Advanced Suspension"

We next turned our attention to the front suspension, having decided earlier the ride quality and handling were simply unacceptable.

The entire front suspension was removed from Blackbird, and all the components were glass bead blasted. The aluminum A-arms and hubs were then "satin polished" by hand and clearcoated for protection from the elements. The A-arms were fitted with Energy Suspension urethane bushings and set aside.

The original front monospring was replaced with a refurbished 1984 spec Z51 spring, and we utilized a 30MM front anti-sway bar (Z51 spec), also fitted with Energy Suspension urethane bushings. The upper and lower balljoints were replaced with heavy duty Moog pieces, using Energy Suspension urethane dust boots to replace all the rubber boots.

We installed the new front suspension, and replaced the worn out original Bilstein shocks with a set of Tokico HP shocks.

We wrapped up the refurbishment of the front suspension with a set of our cross-drilled and slotted brake rotors, and Goodridge stainless steel braided brake hoses.

We then moved to the rear to finish Blackbird’s suspension...
