Part 10 - The Daily Grind
The previous owner's "smooth sided custom" look was accomplished by removing the factory side moldings and filling in the door channels with plastic body filler (Bondo).
Body filler is used by body professionals in smoothing surface imperfections, NOT constructing entire body panels out of it! In any case, the Bondo had to go!
We brought in a bodyman, who first ground out the Bondo inside the door and at the molding mount holes, then used a screwdriver to chip it out of the molding channel. We caught another break as the previous bodyman didn’t properly prep the surface (i.e. the Bondo didn’t stick too well), and the filler popped right out.
Well.. at least it did on the driver’s side. The passenger side needed to be ground out completely. Bondo dust everywhere!
