Part 7 - Tick Tock - We Catch a Break!

Part 7 - Tick Tock - We Catch a Break!

After pulling the valve covers, we discovered Jethro (or was it Billy-Bob?) the mechanic in the course of his "engine build" had put standard stamped NON self-aligning rocker arms on the factory rocker studs, (why are we not surprised?).

L98 engines come from the factory with self-aligning rocker arms, so it’s highly likely that "Bubba" (the name we’ll use from here on out) just used whatever he had laying around the "graj". Definitely NOT what a Corvette or any vehicle deserves!

No high-performance engine (or even a stock replacement) deserves this kind of ham-fisted hackery. The fix was simple, however and quickly rectified with a set of our Scorpion 1.6 ratio self-aligning narrow body aluminum roller rockers.

We use these on every Street Fighter engine we build, as they’re a high-quality product that are made in America and quite reasonably priced. The Scorpions don’t fit under the stock L98 covers without some reworking, however.

Rather than spend a lot of time and money modifying and refurbishing the existing valve covers, we killed two birds with one stone by using some of our stamped steel chrome replacement valve covers, which allow the use of these rockers without modification.

Next to address: the stupid (and ugly) "El Cheapo" ignition wires.
